| Visit to Linda Pace Collection/Chrispark |
| |
London-based contemporary filmmaker Isaac Julien, who got to know Linda Pace during his Artpace residency in 1999, said that Pace will be remembered as “the artist’s collector. By that I mean because not only was Linda a patron of the arts and of individual artists, she was herself an artist,” said Julien.
During the SeeingArtSanAntonio November 3rd tour, we will have the privilege of viewing a small part of the Pace collection as well as visiting CHRISpark, a one-acre public green space created next to the Linda Pace Foundation. The park features a rhythmic layout of lush foliage and delightful encounters with art designed by contemporary artist, Teresita Fernandez. Please visit www.chrispark.org.

| Studio Tour with James Hetherington |

James Hetherington
I work in a variety of media, including painting and assemblage, but I am predominantly a sculptor working with remnants of structural steel and common components shaped from stock material. A spiritual aspect evolves out of the balance of the combined steel forms derived from simple production line materials reduced to their essence to become meditative sculptural instruments. |

My current work focuses on skin as a metaphor for identity and the fragile boundary between the outer world of physical appearance and the interior one of private and psychic complexity. |

The objects and figurines of kitsch and cute carry a huge load of history and stories. This baggage usually sits quietly upon a shelf for the life of the object. I want to examine the past of these everyday, mundane objects and put their stories into my own personal narratives. I have become intrigued with the idea of a story within a story. As I walk down the aisles at the thrift store, I look to see who shares their story with me and is willing to become part of a new narrative that may or may not incorporate the previous history. |
